Having fell seven points behind leaders Chelsea Manchester City are said to be eyeing a potential offer for Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, according to the Daily
Current boss Manuel Pellegrini has seen his side stutter continuously throughout the campaign – having already made up an eight point gap to Chelsea they have again slipped behind, while they struggled when qualifying from their Champions League group.
City also made a shock exit from the FA Cup at the hands of lower league Middlesbrough as their season falters.
And they could end up empty handed as they face Barcelona in the knockout rounds of the Champions League, with serious doubt beginning to cloud the future of Pellegrini.
Should City chiefs decide time is up for the Chilean it is understood that 44-year-old Simeone is the main target for the Manchester club after the Argentinian’s remarkable rise to prominence in the dugout.
Having secured the La Liga title last season as well as reaching the Champions League final, Simeone mastered a crushing 4-0 win over fierce rivals Real Madrid last weekend – meaning it is six games unbeaten against them.
Simeone has already won seven major trophies in his nine years of management while boasting a hugely impressive 64.3 win percentage in three and a half years with Atletico.
