Man Utd plot summer move for Marquinhos

Manchester United are preparing a summer transfer bid for Paris St. Germain defender Marquinhos, who has recently hinted that he could move to the Premier League, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Manager Louis van Gaal is expected to spend big during the close-season as he attempts to restore United to being a side capable of making a sustained challenge to win titles, although he did reportedly attempt to sign Marquinhos on January’s transfer deadline day, only to see two offers knocked back by PSG.

The Red Devils are also extremely keen to bolster their defence, which, despite a recent improvement, has struggled for much of this season and has come in for considerable criticism. Several other players have been linked, including Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar

The 20-year-old Marquinhos, who still has three and-a-half years remaining on his current contract, moved to the French capital in the summer of 2013. He helped PSG to last season’s Ligue 1 title, and overall he has made 55 appearances and scored six goals. Since making his international debut in November 2013, he has earned four caps for Brazil.

And he recently intensified speculation over a move to England by saying: “The Premier League is viewed all around the world. There is even some children in Brazil who grow up supporting English teams. There have been some discussions with English clubs, but right now I’m with PSG.”
