Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta admitted the Sky Blues are desperate to get striker Sergio Aguero firing again, with the Premier League holders having lost ground on the league leaders Chelsea, reports Sky
Since Aguero has returned from injury, Manuel Pellegrini’s side haven’t won a game, and they are now seven points behind Chelsea as a result. The Argentine scored 19 goals in 21 before picking up a knee injury in December. And coupled with Yaya Toure going off for the African Cup of Nations, the form of City has plummeted at the worst time.
And with how Aguero was almost single-handedly earning the Citizens victories earlier on in the campaign, teammate Pablo Zabaleta says the side need him to carry them over the line over the coming weeks until they can get into some form again. The title-race could be all but over if they don’t gain ground on the Londoners soon, so the pressure is on Aguero to get some goals to turn into results and points.
“We need Sergio to come back to his best like he was in November, December when he was doing everything for the team – scoring goals, working hard for the team. But after being injured for a long time for some players it is difficult to come back to his best, in terms of fitness. I am sure Sergio will come back to his best. It is about confidence as well,” said Zabaleta.
