Preston North End 1-3 Manchester United: Red Devils come from behind to reach FA Cup quarter-finals

Goals from Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney saw Manchester United come from behind against League One’s Preston North End to book their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, reports BBC Sport.

The first-half was typically dull, with Preston nullifying Manchester United, and the Red Devils probing without any real penetration. Louis Van Gaal’s side couldn’t break their opponents apart in the opening 45 minutes, and went into the break goalless as a result.

In the second-half, Preston took an early lead. Scott Laird fired a deflected effort past David De Gea in goal to put the hosts ahead in the tie, after being fed through on goal by Joe Garner. They came close to doubling their lead not long after too, but Tom Clarke spurned the chance.

But Manchester United fought their way back into the game through Ander Herrera, whose goal levelled the tie. Marouane Fellaini put United ahead in the game for the first-time, following up his initially saved header.

Wayne Rooney scored a controversial third from the spot to wrap up the win for the Red Devils somewhat unconvincingly, but they’ve booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals against holders Arsenal.
