Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko hailed teammate David Silva as the ‘best player in the Premier League’ after the champions trounced Newcastle United 5-0 on Saturday, Goal.com
They were ahead inside two minutes as Sergio Aguero converted from the spot following Vurnon Anita’s trip on Dzeko, and Samir Nasri bagged the second with a shot into the roof of the net 10 minutes later before Silva took centre stage.
The Spaniard collected possession just inside the Newcastle half on 21 minutes before delivering a perfectly weighted lofted pass to Dzeko, who controlled on the chest and beat Tim Krul with a shot on the half-volley.
After half-time, Silva added his name to the scoresheet when he controlled superbly and produced a clinical finish following a quick break from City, before completing the rout barely a minute late with a first-time shot into the corner from 20 yards.
That was his eighth league goal of the season and rounded off a win which closed the gap to leaders Chelsea to five points, and afterwards Dzeko was quick to praise the contribution of the playmaker.
“The pass from David was first-class … and for me he is the best player in the Premier League,’ said the Bosnia & Herzegovina star. “To have him here with us is an amazing thing, because with David you can always score goals. We played an amazing game. The fans enjoyed this game and I did too.”
