According to Sky Sports, Southampton are close to signing Benfica winger Filip Djurcic on loan.
The Serb is currently with German Bundesliga side Mainz on a loan deal, but is said to be allowed to leave to hold talks with another side. Southampton manager Ronald Koeman previously admitted his interest for the Benfica winger, and a deal is expected to go through on deadline day as result.
Koeman wants to bolster his attacking options, as the South Coast outfit looking to maintain their place in the top-four of the Premier League to seal the illustrious Champions League spot. Southampton have talented players on the flanks, but they have little in the way of viable cover, which is why the Saints boss is so keen to have more talent in the squad to utilise.
It’s unknown if the loan deal would come with a buying option, but Djurcic is set to complete his deal today, with a view to arriving to St Mary’s tonight to finalise the paperwork.
