Tottenham failed in late Schurrle bid

Tottenham made a late and ultimately unsuccessful bid to sign Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle on transfer deadline day, according to Goal.com.

The German World Cup winner eventually completed a £24.1m move to Wolfsburg to facilitate Chelsea’s signing of Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, due to the player’s desire to return to his homeland and Chelsea’s reluctance to sell to one of their rivals.

Upon making their enquiry, Spurs were quoted £30m, a proposal that owner Daniel Levy was unwilling to meet. That meant the North Londoners’ only deadline day acquisition was Milton Keynes Dons starlet Delle Alli for a fee in the region of £5m, with the youngster immediately loaned back to the League One side for the remainder of the season.

Despite their failure to land Schurrle, Tottenham have a number of other transfer targets as they prepare for their summer business, with the club likely to revive their interest in Southampton duo Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin. They are also favourites to sign central defender Winston Reid when his West Ham United contract expires at the end of June.
