Tottenham are ahead in the race to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino in the summer, although he will cost £25m, the Daily
Berahino is comfortably West Brom’s top scorer this season with 14 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions, but has been heavily linked with a move away. Spurs were among the clubs interested last summer along with Liverpool, but had a £15m offer turned down.
However, the 21-year-old Berahino has often stated his desire to move on to ‘bigger things’, with an ‘unauthorised’ interview during the week resulting in a reprimand from Head Coach Tony Pulis, who has occasionally played him in a wide position since joining the club at the turn of the year. It has been rumoured that Pulis could be looking to sell Berahino due to his comments.
As they look for Champions League football, Spurs believe that a partnership of Berahino alongside Harry Kane could prove hugely effective. The North London club have been looking to add to their attacking options for some time, with doubts continuing over the futures of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.
As for Liverpool, Berahino no longer appears to be one of their main targets, with their attention now on Burnley star Danny Ings, whose contract expires at the end of the season and he will therefore cost less.
