Tottenham target Everton’s Lukaku

Tottenham have set their sights of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, who is reportedly willing to leave Merseyside at the end of the season, according to the Metro.

The Belgium international recently stated that he would like to return to a ‘top club’, espite having only decided to join Everton last summer from Chelsea in a £28m deal. The move came after a successful loan spell, while he was unable to force his way into the first-team reckoning at Stamford Bridge.

However, he has struggled for form this season as Everton have disappointed in the Premier League. In 33 appearances this season in all competitions, he has managed 10 goals, and cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks.

Lukaku would like to return to Chelsea, but Tottenham provide a more likely alternative, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to bring him to North London. Spurs are in the market for a new striker as they only have Harry Kane, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado available in that position, and have so far experienced frustration in their attempts to sign West Bromwich Albion star Saido Berahino.

Should they sell, Everton would like to recoup the money they spent to sign Lukaku, which represented a club record transfer. Spurs would be able to afford that, but it could deter other potential suitors, with West Ham United also linked.
