West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that new signing Nene will make his debut on Saturday when the Londoners face Crystal Palace, reports Sky
The Brazilian forward, 33, was signed on a free transfer to provide cover for the current United attackers, as Andy Carroll recently suffered injury that will keep him out for a lengthy period, while Carlton Cole has endured questionable form. He’s now also injured, which means Nene is in line to spearhead the attack, with Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho potentially operating in a wider role.
He was brought in at the start of the year, but failed to make the squad against Tottenham last weekend. Allardyce revealed he will definitely feature against Crystal Palace as a result of the injuries, but was on course to play some part regardless. West Ham’s season is currently in danger of tailing off, after their bright start to the campaign, so the United boss will be hoping Nene can make an instant impact to ignite the fire. He’s vastly experienced, but isn’t getting any young, so it’s a gamble for Allardyce.
“Nene would have probably featured anyway but he will definitely be involved now because we’re down to the two strikers with Andy Carroll’s injury and Carlton Cole’s new hamstring problem,” he said.
