Burnley vs Man City – Premier League preview and team news

Turf Moor hosts an important game concerning both ends of the table as relegation threatened Burnley take on title outsiders Manchester City in Saturday’s late kick-off.

As the visitors can testify, Burnley have been capable of causing surprises against the Premier League’s elite this season, but it was not to be at Liverpool in their last game, where they were comfortably second best and did not have the necessary quality to match a side in top form.

The gap to safety currently stands at three points, and they will be keen for that not to be extended over the coming weeks with the games beginning to run out. The Clarets have shown on occasion that they are capable of staying up, but now is the time where they may have to rely on Danny Ings more than ever.

Last time City played away to Burnley they were three goals up within minutes and went on to win 6-1 in a breathtakingly one-sided affair, but the champions seem to be lacking the confidence to do something similar here, having not convinced entirely in beating Leicester City with goals late in either half.

With the gap to Chelsea standing at five points having played a game more, they know that to have any chance of retaining the title, they must be virtually faultless between now and the end of the season, meaning no slip-ups can be afforded here. The upcoming Champions League second leg with Barcelona is also high on the agenda.

Ings should be fit for Burnley despite being forced off at Liverpool and Matt Taylor could be in contention following a long-term injury, but Kevin Long and Dean Marney are still out.

Man City have a fully-fit squad to choose from, but captain Vincent Kompany will be pushing for a recall along with Edin Dzeko and James Milner.
