Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has rejected reports he was involved in a serious disagreement with captain Vincent Kompany, according to Sky
It was claimed that Fernandinho and Kompany clashed at half-time of the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on March 1, the Reds winning through goals from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho, either side of one from Edin Dzeko.
Fernandinho admitted words were exchanged with the Belgium international but denied there was anything out of the ordinary, stressing that if voices were raised it was because of the commotion of the dressing room, as well as emphasising he respect for Kompany. The Brazilian midfielder also criticised the gossip, suggesting it is coming from people looking to cause trouble for the defending Premier League champions.
“People are creating and telling stories, even though it didn’t happen that way,” Fernandinho complained, rejecting allegations he and Kompany were dropped for City’s next match as a consequence of the reported row. “It was nothing major. There were other people around us and you have to raise your voice a little bit. There was no fight, just a conversation.
“Every player in every team speaks to each other in order to improve the quality on the pitch – that communication is necessary. You have to talk, and that is what happened,” the 29-year-old continued.
“There was a conversation and not much more than that. I don’t know why people actually thought there was a fight. We spoke about how we could improve things in that match.
“I don’t have anything bad to say about Vinny. He is a great player, a great team member, and I have always liked him.
“Myself and Vinny spoke about it that day, and everything was settled on that day. It was finished. It’s very weird that this story actually came up, for something so small to suddenly become so big.”
City next face Burnley and go into the game five points behind league leaders Chelsea, who host Southampton, and have a game in hand on Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
