England boss Roy Hodgson has called up goalkeepers Jack Butland and Robert Green to his squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and the friendly with Italy, BBC
This comes after Southampton stopper Fraser Forster was forced to withdraw from the squad on Saturday evening after picking up a serious looking knee injury during his side’s 2-0 victory over Burnley.
With Ben Foster facing a lengthy lay-off himself, the injury to the former Celtic star left first-choice Joe Hart as the only remaining keeper in the England squad, which was announced on Thursday.
Butland has previously been a regular for the England U-21 side and has earned one senior cap back in August 2012. He comes despite a lack of experience of playing in the Premier League, having rarely featured for Stoke City since joining in January 2013.
Meanwhile, Green – who has been in good form for struggling Queens Park Rangers – has 12 senior England caps, the last of which coming in the 1-0 friendly victory over Norway in the lead-up to Euro 2012. Hodgson has made one other alteration to his initial squad, with Tottenham left-back Danny Rose replacing the injured Luke Shaw.
