Hull vs Chelsea – Premier League preview and team news

Chelsea will be hoping to return to winning ways on their march towards the Premier League title as they go to Hull City, who still need points to ensure survival.

The Tigers will have had mixed feelings from their last game at Leicester City. Holding on to a goalless draw with 10 men against the bottom club will have been pleasing, but on the other hand they missed a couple of fine chances to grab what would have been a deserved three points.

Abel Hernandez was denied late on, while Nikica Jelavic was particularly at fault for passing up a gilt-edged chance in the first half. The Croatian has since picked up an injury and will miss out as Steve Bruce’s men face a very tough run of fixtures. The aim here will be to frustrate the leaders and do damage on the break.

As things stand, the leaders are in a secure position with games in hand as they endeavour to be champions of England for the first time in five years, but any dropped points here would give the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal a glimmer of hope. Since the Champions League loss to Paris St. Germain, manager Jose Mourinho, perhaps sensing tension within his squad, has been adamant that they will get over the line.

Failing to win at home yet establishing a six-point lead at the top made the 1-1 draw with Southampton somewhat bittersweet. It was a match that provided terrific entertainment and a rousing second half display from the Blues, who have won 2-0 in each of their last three meetings with Hull.

Tom Huddlestone serves a one-match ban for Hull and misses out along with Jelavic, James Chester and Mohamed Diame, but Robbie Brady could be back from injury.

John Obi Mikel is the only absentee for Chelsea due to a knee problem, with Willian having recovered from a minor injury sustained against the Saints.
