Liverpool’s Glen Johnson considering a move to AS Roma

According to ESPN, Liverpool defender Glen Johnson is considering a move to Serie A side AS Roma at the end of the season in a bid to resurrect his fledging career. His agent revealed the England international has been speaking with a host of clubs to hash out his future for next season.

Johnson, 30, has been on the periphery with Liverpool this season, as manager Brendan Rodgers has been utilising a 3-4-3 formation which makes the natural fullback somewhat obsolete. His form has been poor for the last 18 months too, with the Reds boss publicly critical of performances. His contract is up in the summer, and there have been no talk with the Merseysiders currently, which suggests he could be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

And with such uncertainty surrounding his future, Johnson is reported to have been speaking with a collection of foreign clubs, and Serie A runners-up AS Roma are one club he could well be joining in the summer. The England international would be playing with former Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole, who joined the Italians last summer, and Johnson’s agent Johnathan Barnett – who represents Cole – believes a move could be made very soon.

“He’s looking at many clubs. Glen is looking for somewhere he can turn around his career. The most important thing for him is playing under a good club that’s challenging for things. That is where he wants to be. Roma would be a lovely place for him. Ashley Cole absolutely adores it there,” he said.
