Man Utd make Pogba their top summer target

Manchester United have made re-signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba their biggest priority for when the transfer window reopens in the summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Frenchman came through the youth system at Old Trafford but left at the end of his contract in 2012 after growing frustrated with almost a total lack of first-team opportunities. Since moving to Turin, he has quickly become regarded as one of the world’s top midfielders, and he looks set to win a third consecutive Serie A title.

He was also a key member of the French squad that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, scoring in the second round win over Nigeria. Current United boss Louis van Gaal is now desperate to bring him back to the club, and the hierarchy would be willing to match Juventus’ valuation, thought to be around £60m. Several other top clubs also hold an interest.

Previous manager David Moyes was also keen on the 22-year-old, who despite recently having signed a new contract with Juventus lasting until 2019, is thought to be one of the few top players that could become available in the summer. Man Utd want to make a number of changes to their squad, and van Gaal is set to be heavily backed in doing so.
