Man Utd manager van Gaal impressed by Tottenham

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has praised Tottenham’s style and their youth policy ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting between the two sides, reports ManUtd.com.

The upcoming match is a significant one in terms of the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with United currently lying in the crucial fourth spot, three points above Spurs, who have won their last two games to rise up to sixth place.

Tottenham started slowly in what is their first season under Mauricio Pochettino, but have come on strongly in recent months, with a lot of their success achieved by their less experienced players, who also helped them to the final of the Capital One Cup, which they lost to Chelsea.

Ryan Mason had no experience of playing in the Premier League before this season, but is now a regular in the midfield alongside Nabil Bentaleb. Meanwhile, Eric Dier has often played in central defence in recent weeks and striker Harry Kane has particularly impressed, scoring 26 goals in all competitions this season.

And that philosophy has earned the admiration of van Gaal, who said: “It is not easy to play Tottenham. I like their process because you can see that a lot of experienced players are not playing and a lot of youngsters are playing. In spite of that, they are also very close and are playing attacking football.

“The way that Kane is scoring is also a reason for that success. It’s an aspect in the world of football that a big talent can stand up in one season and he is doing that.”
