Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal angered by Di Maria red card

After Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria picked up two yellow cards within a minute of each other in United’s 2-1 home defeat to Arsenal, manager Louis van Gaal was critical of the Argentine’s conduct, reports BBC Sport.

Di Maria was initially booked for a dive, and was quickly given a second yellow card after tugging referee Michael Oliver’s shirt. It capped a miserable performance by the winger, who enjoyed one moment of quality – assisting Manchester United’s first-half equaliser. United were already losing at the time of the red card, but the 10-men didn’t come too close to scoring after Di Maria’s exit, and Van Gaal was less than impressed.

The 27-year-old has been criticised from all angles after a poor debut season with the Red Devils, and he will now be absent in their next league game. His manager couldn’t argue the decision, and says the £60M should know better, as it’s something punished in every top European league. Manchester United lost the game without a whimper at Old Trafford, and now have to turn their attentions to finishing in the top-four.
