Terry’s current deal was due to expire in the summer of 2015 but he will stay on at Stamford Bridge for at least another 12 months, having made 661 appearances for the Blues since his debut in 1998. Terry has, barring a short loan spell at Nottingham Forest, represented Chelsea for his entire career.
“I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea,” he said. “After adding another major trophy to my collection this month I hope myself, the players and manager can continue to bring success to our club. Playing for this great club makes me so proud. And as always I would like to thank the fans who have continually supported me.”
Terry has claimed three Premier League winners’ medals – in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2009-10 – as well as five FA Cup winners’ medals, three League Cup winners’ medals and European success in the Europa League, in 2013, and the Champions League, in 2012.
Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League table with 67 points from their 29 games, a six-point lead over champions Manchester City and with a game in hand on Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Terry also captained Chelsea to success in the League Cup earlier this season, as Chelsea dispatched London rivals Tottenham Hotspur
