Tottenham vs Leicester – Premier League preview and team news

Tottenham will be desperate to hit back from their awful afternoon at Old Trafford by overcoming the challenge of Leicester City, who days in the Premier League appear increasingly numbered.

For whatever reason, Mauricio Pochettino’s men just did not show up in what looked a terrific chance to emphasise their top four credentials, defending abysmally and creating next to nothing in attack. The respective threats of Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane were totally nullified as they looked a shadow of the side that has made giant strides in recent months.

They will be expected to return to form here, but Spurs will be well aware that the Foxes knocked them out of the FA Cup back in January. But the need for points is great as the hierarchy strive for Champions League football, but a the six-point gap as a large one at this stage of the season. A win is a must.

But it has also reached the point where the same applies for Leicester, who again failed to make any real impression in their last game at home to Hull, the type of game they should be winning if they are to have any realistic hope of bridging the seven point gap to safety, and they continue to look toothless in attack.

That is despite the array of options that manager Nigel Pearson has available, with Jamie Vardy the latest striker to be recalled without success. One positive against the Tigers was a rare clean sheet, but they were lucky to get away with the odd glaring miss, and it will be interesting to see how a vulnerable defence combats Tottenham’s attacking threat.

Pochettino could ring the changes after the poor display at Man Utd with a fully-fit squad available, but Harry Kane should keep his place in attack in the wake of his England call-up.

Leicester are likely to again be without Dean Hammond due to injury. Anthony Knockaert may miss out again after personal reasons forced him out of the Hull clash.
