Walcott rejects reports of Arsenal fall-out

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has insisted he and the club are not at loggerheads over his new contract, Sky Sports has reported.

The England international took the step of replying directly to speculation there was an impasse by posting a series of messages on his personal Twitter account, after it was claimed part of the reason he was not getting game time under manager Arsene Wenger was due to his contractual situation.

Walcott spent almost a full year recovering from an injury suffered in January 2014 and was sidelined again in December of the same year, making only one starting appearance in all competitions since his first injury. He will as of this summer be in the final year of his current Gunners contract but rubbished any suggestion that he isn’t playing because he hasn’t yet extended his deal.

“I don’t normally comment on false stories about myself,” Walcott wrote, “but reports about contract demands and bust-ups with the boss are complete nonsense…

“There have been no contract talks as yet and my current focus is not on contracts but on doing my best for Arsenal FC,” he added.

Walcott has been an Arsenal player since a January 2006 move from Southampton, making 271 appearances under the long-serving Wenger, scoring 67 goals.
