Arsenal are in pole position to sign Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain should he leave Napoli at the end of the season, according to the Metro.
However, they are likely to return to their attempts to sign Higuain should he become available this summer, and the 27-year-old has reportedly become unsettled at Napoli and could decide to move on.
A deal is more likely to happen if Napoli – having missed out in 2014 – fail to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League next season. They currently lie in third place, the final qualification spot in Serie A, but are some way behind the top two of Juventus and Roma.
Higuain, who is likely to cost something in the region of £34.7m, has scored an impressive 30 goals in 60 appearances in Naples under Rafael Benitez.
