Arsenal’s in-form striker Olivier Giroud is setting out to score more goals than teammate Alexis Sanchez, with the Frenchman having levelled his tally with the Chilean international’s, despite having been injured for a lengthy period at the start of the season, reports the Express.
The Frenchman revealed that he is hoping to finish as the club’s top scorer this season, to cap what has been an impressive return from injury. He played down any talk of a rivalry between the two forwards, and instead says both players are setting out a challenge to finish with the highest amount of goals by the end of the campaign.
Sanchez started his debut season in electric form, but has since suffered from fatigue which appears to be taking away from his game. Giroud has picked up the slack, and looks the most likely to end top of the scoring tally.
“I’m not going to say something silly because it’ll be reported, but why not finish ahead of Alexis? We push each other, we’re on 13 goals, and I would like to score some more to help the team achieve its objectives,” he said.
