Arsenal’s Theo Walcott to hold contract talks in a fortnight

According to Sky Sporrts, Arsenal forward Theo Walcott will hold talks with the club over a new contract, ending speculation that he will be used as a makeweight deal to sign Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling in the summer.

The England international, 26, has suffered injury problems over the last 18 months, but was boasting fantastic form the Gunners prior to his lengthy layouts. His lack of playing time has kept him on the bench, and reports previously hinted that he could seek an exit from the club. But it now appears Walcott will extend his stay with Arsenal, nine years after he joined from Southampton.

He has one year left on his deal, and has been enquired about by a couple of clubs, but manager Arsene Wenger has no intention of letting him leave. With 77 goals in 203 appearances for the Londoners, Walcott has shown himself to be a prolific wide forward, but has struggled with former of late due to a need of match fitness.

Links to Liverpool surfaced, as Arsenal’s pursuit of Raheem Sterling could have involved Walcott being used as a part exchange, but such a deal now looks dead in the water.
