Aston Villa’s in-form striker Christian Benteke isn’t allowing himself or his teammates to get carried away following the Midlands side’s upturn in form, reports Sky
Three wins and a draw from their last six games has seen the Villans on course to avoid relegation, but they still have work to do. The Midlands outfit next face Manchester City and Everton, so they could well struggle to pick up points in the next two weeks, meaning that sides below them in the table could make up the ground. Their victory against Tottenham on the weekend sees them in great shape at a perfect time, but the Belgian striker doesn’t want any complacency among the team in their remaining games.
Benteke doesn’t think the players should consider their job done in the relegation battle. They are currently six points clear of the drop zone following their recent results, but will know how quickly things can change. Sides around them in the table are fighting for their lives, which has already seen shock results occur, so Villa could be made to finish the season strongly to keep away from danger.
“I think it’s risky to say we can take three points and we’re finished. We have to try to win every game. Saturday was a massive three points because now we’re six points clear of QPR so it’s very important for us to be far off them,” said Benteke.
