Blackburn 0-1 Liverpool: Coutinho goal sends Liverpool into the FA Cup semi-finals

Liverpool book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals, courtesy of a Philippe Coutinho goal in the second-half of their tight encounter with a resilient Blackburn Rovers side, reports BBC Sport.

Rovers’ gameplan was effective in the first 45 minutes, with the Championship side limiting their Premier League opponents to long-range opportunities. The two sides went into the break goalless as a result, and manager Gary Bowyer had the second tier club taking the game to Liverpool early in the second-half.

It led to the game becoming stretched, and while Blackburn also came closer to scoring – hitting the woodwork, and forcing the Reds’ goalkeeper into making a host of saves – so did Liverpool. The Reds eventually made their pressure count in the 70th minute, with a cleared corner seeing the Reds re-work a clever one-two for Coutinho to strike the ball hard and low into the far bottom corner.

Blackburn were already drained by the time of the goal, but had a very good opportunity at the death, with goalkeeper Eastwood nearly volleying home after coming up from a corner.

The result sees Liverpool into the FA Cup semi-final, where they will face Aston Villa at Wembley.
