Burnley vs Tottenham – Premier League preview and team news

Relegation-threatened Burnley will be looking for just their second win in nine league games when they take on Tottenham for the fourth and final time this season in all competitions.

That sole success came famously against Manchester City, where they produced a fine defensive display to move to within just a point of safety. The Clarets could not quite match that showing against Southampton last time out, but the result could have been different had first half chances been taken.

With Sunderland playing later on Sunday against arch rivals Newcastle United, this is a fine opportunity for Sean Dyche’s men to escape the bottom three and put all the pressure on the Wearside club, and they may look to George Boyd to provide another moment of inspiration at a raucous Turf Moor.

A number of Tottenham stars made their mark on the international scene, particularly for England as Harry Kane netted seconds into his debut before Andros Townsend fired in from Ryan Mason’s pass to earn a draw in Italy, but the attention now for the trio returns to their club’s slim hopes of a top four finish.

Kane took his goals tally to 29 for the season with a hat-trick in an exhilarating game against Leicester City as they just about managed to respond to their crushing defeat at Manchester United with three points. This match will represent a test of character for Spurs, who will have to match the commitment and intensity of their hosts.

Matt Taylor is back in training for Burnley but will not feature. Dean Marney is unavailable against his former club, although Stephen Ward is in contention.

Tottenham will have Michel Vorm in goal instead of the injured Hugo Lloris, while they have major doubts over the fitness of Danny Rose and Roberto Soldado.
