Coquelin: We can win titles with Giroud

Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has refuted claims from former Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry that the Olivier Giroud isn’t good enough to win the Gunners the Premier League, and believes the French international to have all the attributes to deliver honours to the Emirates, reports ESPN.

Henry was very critical about Arsenal following their 0-0 draw against Chelsea, and believes they still need four players to come in to change their fortunes around. The former striker labelled their need for a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker, adding that their current centre-forward Olivier Giroud isn’t good enough to win them the Premier League title.

But his teammate Coquelin has leapt to his defence, and believes Henry is wrong about his criticism of Giroud. The French international has been outstanding since his return from injury, scoring 14 goals in 22 league games this season, some of which weren’t starts, and has started netting in big games too.

He was kept at bay against Chelsea recently, but has improved every season he was at the club, which is something Coquelin was keen to highlight to Henry in a bid to silence the pundit. The in-form midfielder was quoted as saying: “Thierry Henry is wrong. Giroud shows his potential every week. He showed that he has the level to be the Arsenal striker, and we can win titles with him.”
