Depay denies rumours linking him with Manchester United

Heavily-coveted PSV Eindhoven and Dutch forward Memphis Depay has denied holding talks with Manchester United over a summer move. The young star of the Eredivisie says “there is no truth” in the rumours linking him with a return to play under ex-Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal, reports ESPN.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season, winning the league with PSV and finishing as the division’s top scorer. He’s improved upon last season, and interest has risen in his services as a result. Liverpool and Manchester United are two sides who have been linked in recent weeks, and Depay was reported to have met up with the latter in particular to discuss terms of a transfer.

Some publications were suggesting the deal was all but done, but the youngster has refuted the allegations. He played under United manager Louis van Gaal when the pair worked together for the Netherlands national team, but may not be renewing acquaintances just yet based on quotes recently made clearing up the rumours.

Depay’s agent revealed he had been speaking to Manchester United, and that his client was flying over to discuss terms, the PSV forward vehemently denied the claims, and said: “There’s absolutely no truth in that. I haven’t spoken to Manchester United.”
