Everton ran out comfortable winners against Manchester United this afternoon, with goals from James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas earning the Merseysiders a valuable win in their hopes for a top-10 finish, reports BBC
The Blues took an early lead through James McCarthy, following a swift counter attack that saw the midfield fed through on goal and expertly finishing past the onrushing David De Gea. It set the tone for the first-half, as United were second best to every ball, and failed to create clear cut opportunities to every threatened a response.
And 30 minutes after their opening goal, young defender John Stones scored his first goal for the club. The talented centre-back rose highest from a corner to fire his effort into the back of the net to double Everton’s lead with 10 minutes still to play in the first-half.
After the break, United continued to enjoy large spells of possession, but could create a chance of real quality to half their deficit. Everton then delivered the ultimate sucker punch hitting United on the break, with Kevin Mirallas scored their third goal and sealing all three points for the in-form Blues.
