Koeman: We can’t wait for Clyne to decide future

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is pressuring defender Nathaniel Clyne to make a decision about his future, with the England international having been linked to Liverpool and Manchester United in the summer, reports BBC Sport.

The Saints boss revealed the club have been in talks with the youngster’s representatives, and the message appears to be that Clyne is still weighing up all his options. He recently spoke about all the interest in his services, admitting he was flattered by the clubs who were keen on him, but didn’t confirm where his future lied. Clyne did suggest European football could sway him, but playing Europa League football for Southampton might not be what he meant.

After a mass exodus last summer, the last thing Southampton want to be doing is undergoing another rebuild period. For the South Coast to be improving upon the last campaign is incredible given the players they lost at the end of last season, and there are a host of stars attracting interest elsewhere.

Clyne is England’s first-choice right-back, and is coming off the back of some glistening seasons with Southampton, but Koeman wants him to make a decision before the season comes to a close, saying: “We are talking to Clyne and his agent. We can’t wait until the end of the season. It’s not like we need to know today or tomorrow but we are talking to them and we will try to do everything to keep the player but you need both parties for that.”
