Le Tissier: Yaya Toure could shine under a new manager

Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier believes a change in manager at Manchester City will get the best out of the out-of-form Yaya Toure, with the Ivorian having come under a lot of criticism for his poor performances of late.

Manchester City look on course for a trophyless season, and midfielder Yaya Toure has been one of many players blamed for their disappointing campaign. Pundits have been very critic of the former Barcelona man, as he’s underperformed in big games in the Premier League and Champions League.

Toure’s lack of defensive capabilities have been a real flaw in the Manchester City side, which could well see him out the door in the summer. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have been linked to the 31-year-old, who this season has looked out of sorts.

He’s been ever-present for the Sky Blues, but hasn’t come close to matching last season’s performances. Toure was outstanding in 2013/14, scoring and creating goals on a regular basis. But such moments of magic have been few and far between. Le Tissier feels a change in manager will see him shine again.

“It’s a strange one with Toure as he goes from being a world beater one week to looking like he doesn’t give two hoots and not really playing for the shirt the next. Maybe a new manager can inspire him as a person and as a player, then there’s a chance that they can get another good year out of him, but he hasn’t looked himself this season,” he said.
