Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, meaning he will miss the Reds’ FA Cup semi-final clash later this month, and crucial Premier League games in the fight for a top-four spot, reports BBC
The French international, 25, has been key at the heart of the Liverpool backline, boasting great levels of athleticism in a three man defence, that led to an impressive upturn in form in the Premier League. His absence will be missed, as the likes of Dejan Lovren has really struggled for form all through the season. Sakho was part of a defence that were keeping clean sheets in 2015, and now manager Brendan Rodgers has to make changes.
Sakho could potentially return for what could be a crucial clash against Chelsea in the Premier League on the 10th of May, but he’d be in no condition to play if his recovery had a setback. It’s the last thing Liverpool needed ahead of tonight’s game against Newcastle, as they are coming off the back of defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League, which hampered their top-four hopes at the time.
