Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes Romelu Lukaku will one day be among the best strikers in the world, BBC
Lukaku was criticised earlier in the season for poor performances and a lack of goal, at point being dropped from the starting XI by Martinez, and has also spent time on the sidelines through injury. But an upturn in form has seen the Belgium international reach 18 goals for the season and Martinez believes Lukaku will be a better player for his struggles this year.
“We’ve all been through that type of season,” Martinez said when asked about the former Chelsea forward. “He is quite responsible and sometimes takes a critical view of himself but I think that’s what will make him one of the best strikers in world football.”
Lukaku has been at Goodison Park for the last two years, initially joining on a season-long loan from Chelsea before a £28m permanent move in summer 2014. He scored 18 goals in 34 games in all competitions for the Toffees, helping the team into fifth place. This season Lukaku has made 43 appearances as Everton reached the latter stages of the Europa League and are currently 12th in the Premier League.
