Man City captain Kompany could be out for the season

Manchester City could be without captain Vincent Kompany for the rest of the season, Yahoo Sport has reported, as the centre-back struggles with a thigh injury.

Kompany was injured in the 4-2 Manchester derby defeat on Sunday, going off at half-time, to be replaced by Eliaquim Mangala. City had taken the lead at Old Trafford through Sergio Aguero, but United scored through Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata and Chris Smalling before Aguero claimed a second.

City, the defending league champions, have fallen to fourth place, 12 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after recording four defeats and two draws in their last 10 games. Manuel Pellegrini’s side still have to play West Ham and Aston Villa at home before travelling to Tottenham Hotspur, hosting Queens Park Rangers, visiting Swansea City, and end the season at home to Southampton.

Pellegrini confirmed the doubts over Kompany’s involvement in the last half-dozen games of the campaign at his pre-West Ham press conference. “We don’t know if he will be fit before the end of the season,” Pellegrini added.
