Man Utd target Hummels hints at Dortmund exit

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels – said to be a target for Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal – has hinted he is to leave his current club this summer, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

United have long tracked Hummels but been unable to prise the Germany international away from Dortmund, however it is thought the World Cup winner told his national team colleagues that he is close to agreeing terms on a move to Old Trafford. Hummels has previously spoken publically of his desire to one day ply his trade outside Germany, vowing to be open and honest about his intentions when the time comes.

A fee in the region of £35m has been mooted for the 26-year-old, who has been at Signal Iduna Park since a 2008 move from Bayern Munich. Hummels initially joined Dortmund on loan, making the switch permanent a year later, and has gone on to play more than 250 games for the club, winning the title in 2010-11 and 2011-12. Hummels was also part of the Dortmund team that reached the Champions League final in 2012-13, losing at Wembley to Munich.
