Man Utd will be fired up for derby, says Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes that rivals Manchester United will be show a maximum desire to win when they two sides meet in the derby on Sunday, writes BBC Sport.

Kompany has helped his side win the last four Manchester derbies; the last of which coming back in November when a Sergio Aguero goal settled the game with United having been down to 10 men from the first half following the sending off of Chris Smalling.

Despite their recent record in the fixture both home and away, United are most people’s favourites to win this latest encounter as their recent form is hugely superior to the champions. They even come into the game a point above City in the Premier League table having overtaken them in the last round of fixtures.

With the pressure firmly on his side after they slipped to fourth with defeat at Crystal Palace last time out, Kompany believes those recent derby disappointments will have hurt United and that will fully motivate them in this eagerly anticipated game at Old Trafford.

“For a long time I felt we wanted it more, but I think they’ve been hurt pretty badly and they’ll want it just as much now,” the 29-year-old said. “They have their games against Liverpool, which are very important to them. For us, this is the most important game. In previous years I think we wanted it more but things change.”
