Manchester City’s David Silva refutes Barcelona transfer rumours

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has refuted claims that he will join La Liga title-chasers Barcelona, and has insisted he wants to see out his contract with the Sky Blues, reports the Express.

The Spanish international, 29, has been in incredible form for the Premier League giants this season, scoring 11 goals in 24 games as the Sky Blues have tried to retain their title under manager Manuel Pellegrini. But with City on course for a trophyless season, rumours suggested than Silva was seeking pastures anew, with Barcelona a potential destination, as long-serving playmaker Xavi was leaving the club to potentially join Qatari side Al Sadd in the summer.

However, Silva has himself played down such talk of an exit, and is looking forward to seeing out the remaining years of his contract with the two-time Premier League winners. The Spaniard signed a five-year-deal with Manchester City last August, and has no intentions of leaving before then. He’s enjoyed a successful trophy laden career, most especially in the last few years, and has enjoyed his time in the Premier League.

When asked about his future with Manchester City next season, the former Valencia midfielder replied: “I am not thinking about returning to La Liga at the moment. I feel very good at City, the fans treat me very well. We have won two Premier League championships and two cups. Now we just need to take another step in the Champions League.”
