Manchester City winger Jesus Navas still believes Premier League leaders Chelsea can be caught in the coming weeks, and isn’t ruling out his side to retain their title come May, reports Sky
Chelsea are currently nine points ahead of Manchester City, but the Sky Blues face Crystal Palace tonight, which could see them cut the deficit by a third. Manchester City have slipped themselves into fourth in the league following a poor run of form. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have dropped points in six of their last 10 Premier League games, which sees them looking over their shoulders to the sides fighting for a Champions League place.
But Jesus Navas, who himself has endured a difficult season, believes Manchester City should be targeting the Premier League title, despite Chelsea currently leading by a distance, as he believes Jose Mourinho’s men can still ensure a number of slip-ups in the coming weeks, with big games still ahead of them against Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, who are all fighting to finish in the top-four.
City, however, need to do their part of the bargain by winning their remaining to stand a chance. Something Navas feels can be done, as it’s been done before.
“The key is to win all the remaining games and I’m sure Chelsea will drop points. We’re not focused on Chelsea. We are focusing on ourselves. We need to strive for excellence and we need to win all our remaining fixtures. We have the squad to do so. We are ready to face the challenge. We have to fight until the last minute of the last game to win it. It’s going to be difficult and hard but we’ll give everything we have to try and win the Premier League again,” he said.
