Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s meeting against out-of-form Newcastle United, Swansea City manager Garry Monk has demanded a response from his players following last weekend’s defeat to Leicester City, reports Sky
Swansea City have been in good form this season, and were impressing at the tail-end of the campaign, before losing to Leicester. The Welsh club have confounded many critics with how well they’ve done to keep their top-half position in the table. They will surpass their record points tally in the Premier League if they avoid defeat to Newcastle, but Monk is demanding more than that.
He was frustrated and surprised to see how Leicester City managed to beat them. Prior to the defeat, Swansea were in a decent run of form in the league, picking up seven points in their previous three games, but their defeat to the Foxes threatens to half their recent resurgence.
Monk’s men have five games to go this season, and Newcastle on Saturday is a must-win according to the manager. He won’t accept anything less from his side, as he’s desperate to finish as strongly as possible. He was quoted as saying: “We were disappointed last week with our performance (against Leicester). But every time we’ve had a setback we’ve come back strong. That’s what we’ve talked about this week. This weekend you will see a good reaction and that hunger.”
