Mourinho: Chelsea five wins from Premier League title

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has targeted five wins and a draw from the club’s remaining eight Premier League fixtures to guarantee a first title since the 2009-10 season, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

The Blues are seven points clear of Arsenal after 30 games, the Gunners having played a game more, but if Manchester City beat Crystal Palace on Monday evening they would return to second place, six points behind Mourinho’s side. Chelsea, whose game in hand comes against bottom of the table Leicester City, on Saturday beat Stoke City 2-1 and Mourinho cast forward to how many more points his team require before they take the title from City.

“We need five victories and one draw,” Mourinho said. “We believe in ourselves. We have strong mentalities. We are ready to play, we are ready to fight, to suffer together.”

Chelsea downed the Potters through goals from Eden Hazard, a penalty, and Loic Remy, coming either side of Charlie Adam’s strike from 65 yards.

The London club were managed by Carlo Ancelotti the last time they claimed the Premier League title, finishing a point clear of Manchester United, having previously won the title two seasons in a row – 2004-05 and 2005-06 – in Mourinho’s first spell at Stamford Bridge.
