After Chelsea scored a last-minute winner to earn all three points against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, manager Jose Mourinho said the victory was highly important for the title race, as the Blues managed to maintain their lead on the sides chasing them, reports BBC
Chelsea were below-par against the Hoops, but managed to earn a valuable three points when it looked more likely they would be held to a draw. The Blues have been more shaky in the business end to the campaign, with their games finishing much closer than in the first-half to the season.
Manager Jose Mourinho knows just how important the win against Rangers could prove to be, as the Londoners have big games to come against the Premier League’s elite. Manchester United and Arsenal are the next two games to come for the league leaders, and the reaction from the players following their late winner spoke volumes.
Had they have drawn to QPR, there would have been real pressure on them to perform when they face sides looking to catch them in the table, but now they have restored their lead over Arsenal and Manchester United, Chelsea are in pole position.
“Our situation is good, but we have big matches to play. It was a big win. It’s only the second time we have won in the last minute. If the result had been 0-0 I wouldn’t have been surprised. We controlled them very well, but they controlled us very well. It was a good derby and I enjoyed it,” said Mourinho.
