Tottenham Hotspur earned a comfortable win against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, with Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane getting back on the scoresheet that ensured Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished the day in a Europa League spot, reports BBC
Tottenham took the lead in the 30th minute through Nacer Chadli, with the Belgian international scoring from distance. Newcastle, who had thousands of supporters boycotting the match, did fight back well, and scored just after half-time.
Midfielder Jack Colback scored from close range, after capitalising on a rebounded effort from Daryl Janmaat, but the Magpies couldn’t hold on for long, and Colback went from hero to villain.
He fouled Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen in a wide area, and the Danish playmaker curled a free-kick that deceived United goalkeeper Tim Krul to put Spurs ahead.
Harry Kane got himself on the scoresheet at the death, ending his own mini goal drought, and notching 30 for the season in all competitions in the process.
Tottenham ran out worthy winners, and went sixth in the Premier League table. Newcastle suffered their sixth consecutive league defeat, and continue their slide down the table under manager John Carver.
