Pellegrini not worried about the sack despite Palace defeat

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed he isn’t worried about his job security, following the Sky Blues’ surprise defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night, reports Sky Sports.

City were dominant in the game, and had their opponents on the ropes for the majority of Monday night’s encounter, but just couldn’t deliver the crippling blow to come away with a deserved win. Palace were resilient, and defended stoically in the final stages of the match, but the Premier League holders can certainly feel hard done by that they have come away from Selhurst Park with nothing.

The result sees City’s hopes of reclaiming the league crown all but over, while placing more pressure onto manager Manuel Pellegrini too. They definitely look set for a trophyless campaign, which saw predecessor Roberto Mancini sacked in the summer of 2013. However, his Chilean replacement doesn’t feel the same treatment will be extended his way, despite the poor form and recent defeat.

Manchester City finished the evening nine points behind league leaders Chelsea in the table, with seven games remaining, all but ruling them out of the race. Pellegrini typically remains optimistic, and isn’t worrying about the sack.

“I’m not concerned about my job. That is one thing I am never concerned with. I never have fear about it, I do my work, I’m very happy. The team maybe have a difficult season but never worry about me. We are just trying to win our games,” he said.
