Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, according to Football
Mikel, who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2006 after a protracted transfer wrangle involving Manchester United has made more than 300 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals and winning the Premier League, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League.
But only 14 of those appearances have come this season amid competition from the likes of Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Ramires for midfield places in Jose Mourinho’s side. The 28-year-old Mikel has two years remaining on his contract with the Premier League leaders but has been identified as a target of Madrid, as they look to bolster their midfield as Sami Khedira prepares to leave the Santiago Bernabeu once his contract expires.
Madrid have also been linked with Southampton’s France international Morgan Schneiderlin and also have the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Asier Illarramendi and Lucas Silva among their midfield ranks. Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti has however worked with Mikel before, during his two years in the Chelsea dugout.
