After Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke scored three goals against Queens Park Rangers to eventually rescue a point at Villa Park, manager Tim Sherwood says the Midlands club need him in their race for survival, reports Sky
Benteke put in an outstanding performance against the Londoners, scoring three goals of real quality, which Sherwood will take some credit for. Upon his arrival, the former Tottenham head coach promised he would turn the Belgian around, and seven goals from his last five games would suggest his work has paid off.
“Christian Benteke was very good. The second goal especially was excellent. We need him between now and the end of the season,” he said.
Aston Villa’s point against Queens Park Rangers still sees them in trouble this season, but Sherwood believes having a striker in such hot form will be crucial to ensure of their Premier League status come May. He said that Christian Benteke is essential to the side until the end of the season, and praised his performance against the relegation-threatened counterparts.
The Villa boss wasn’t too pleased with the goals conceded, but could do nothing but laud a performance from Benteke that was the difference between a point and a defeat at the end. He was the most deadly man on the pitch, earning a man-of-the-match award as a result.
