Southampton not planning to sell top players in the summer

Southampton’s Head of Football Development Les Reed says the club have no plans to sell any of their best players in the summer, with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez likely to attract interest from a host of interested suitors, reports Sky Sports.

The South Coast club could be losing Morgan Schneiderlin, with Tottenham and Arsenal having confessed a minor interest before. The French midfielder has once again shone for the Saints, and was unfortunate to have missed out on being named in the PFA Team of the Year, and requested a transfer at the start of the campaign, before being convinced to stay at St Mary’s.

Southampton saw their squad pillaged last summer, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert having all been sold to sides in the Premier League. Manager Ronald Koeman was allowed to spend the majority of money made from the sales on new players, and has been told that he won’t be forced to sell any players at the end of this season.

And with interest reportedly rising in Schneiderlin and Rodriguez, Reed revealed the club won’t sell. He said: “It wouldn’t be our intention to sell any of our players this summer. We’re in the process of renegotiating contracts with some but our main purpose at the moment is keeping this squad together and adding to it.”
