Toure, Nasri and Jovetic to go in Man City clear-out

Premier League champions Manchester City are to clear the decks in the summer, the Daily Telegraph has reported, with as many as six players potentially leaving the club after a disappointing defence of their title.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini will also face questions as to his role in City’s inability to challenge runaway league leaders Chelsea, but not until the end of the season, amid speculation he could leave the club before the campaign is over.

Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri, Edin Dzeko, Gael Clichy, Aleksandar Kolarov and Stevan Jovetic are the names touted for departure, while Frank Lampard will end his stay at the club and move to sister side New York City FC, and the out-of-contract James Milner will quit City as well, potentially for Liverpool.

City will attempt to lower the average age of their squad when looking for replacements, with the likes of Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling and Everton midfield Ross Barkley mooted as targets. Paul Pogba, Juventus’ former Manchester United midfielder, has also been linked with a return to English football in City colours.

Having beaten Liverpool to top spot last year, to claim their second title in three years, City are now 12 points adrift of Chelsea, tumbling in to fourth place after a series of indifferent results, including a 4-1 Manchester derby defeat on Sunday.
