West Ham United face an anxious wait to find out whether leading scorer Diafra Sakho will be able to play again this season after he limped off in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Saturday, Sky
The former Metz striker came off just before the hour mark after suffering a thigh injury, and he will now go for a scan on Monday which will determine the extent of the problem. He will definitely miss the upcoming trip to champions Manchester City.
The Hammers also have a few concerns over fellow striker Enner Valencia, who returned from a few weeks out before being taken off as a precaution with 12 minutes remaining. The Ecuador international will be monitored during the week ahead, but it is hoped that he will be fit for the game at the Etihad Stadium.
If not, the Londoners would be desperately short of attacking options, with Andy Carroll sidelined and Mauro Zarate out on loan at Queens Park Rangers. Brazilian forward Nene would be likely to deputise.
Manager Sam Allardyce said: “Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could be two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see.’
