Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma says the Premier League champions-elect are more focused on gaining results through their defensive style than they are trying to satisfy the crown with attacking play, and such a style has been justified as they are two games away from winning the title, reports Sky
The French centre-back has most notably operated as a makeshift holding midfielder to provide a man-marking job on opposition teams’ danger man at times, which has also seen Chelsea adopt a negative formation to come away with a result. Most recently in their 0-0 draw against Arsenal, they were criticised by the home fans, who chanted “boring, boring Chelsea”, but Zouma and the rest of the team are staying focused at the job in hand.
“Supporters can say what they want, but we have to be focused on our game. The most important thing is that we keep going and keep winning points. I think we play the same but more defensively because we know that everybody wants to beat us and we are focused on only the points. There’s a target for everybody, we are almost there. We have to win the two next matches. We are very determined – all season we’ve work very hard to win this league,” he said.
Chelsea face Leicester City tonight at the King Power stadium, and could have one hand on the Premier League title if they can earn all three points against the Foxes. Jose Mourinho’s men have been in fantastic form in 2015, and currently find themselves 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal, with a game in hand. They have raced away to the title, and no side have come close for long enough to catch them.
